Finding healthy community can be difficult – blessed souls who are a little further down the road on their journeys of true healing. They are not always found in the typical places. Not all therapists, counselors, spiritual advisors, pastors, friends, and family are helpful – and that is ok. Accepting that is part of the journey and surrendering those who cannot help you is part of the letting go. When you get to the point of desperate desiring you come out, let go, and move towards what is helpful. It’s almost easier to discover and name what is not helpful – easy fixes, formulas, condemnation, shame, pat answers, religion, whatever was not working, and … I’m sure you can add to this list. On this journey, we get to trust our gut – that deep intuition inside that either feels at peace or it doesn’t. Your gut and inner intuition feels at peace in healthy community because they actively listen and comfortably sit with you in your pain without trying to fix it. They empathetically understand because they have been where you are and can share from their own experience, strength, and hope without giving advice. And they can walk along side you and help lead you to the ONE who is their strength and hope.
